Walker Cup Match, 12½ - 11½

Stuart Manley won his singles match and fellow countryman
Nigel Edwards halved the last match Sunday, giving Great
Britain and Ireland a record third consecutive victory
over the USA in the Walker Cup Match at Ganton Golf
Club, 12½ to 11½.

North Yorkshire, England – Brock Mackenzie kept his
unbeaten record intact as he teamed with Matt Hendrix
Sunday for the one win for the United States amateur
squad in morning foursomes (alternate shot) matches
that pushed the Americans to a 9-7 advantage with eight
singles matches remaining in the Walker Cup Match at
Ganton Golf Club. The U.S. also halved two of the other
three foursomes and needs 3½ out of eight points in
afternoon singles matches to reclaim the Cup. The Great
Britain and Ireland team won the last two matches, in
1999 and 2001.

Ganton,
North Yorkshire, England – Americans Bill Haas of Greer,
S.C., and Trip Kuehne of Dallas, Texas, combined to
win 3½ of a possible four points Saturday, leading the
United States team to a slim 7-5 lead after the first
day of play at the Walker Cup Match at Ganton Golf Club.
The U.S. rallied in the afternoon, winning five of the
eight singles matches and halving two more.

and Ireland Takes Early 3-1 Lead After Saturday Morning
Foursomes
Ganton,
North Yorkshire, England – Americans Bill Haas of Greer,
S.C., and Trip Kuehne of Dallas, Texas, rallied to win
holes 13 and 16 to defeat Englishmen Gary Wolstenholme
and Michael Skelton in the top foursomes match Saturday
morning, but Great Britain and Ireland won the other
three foursomes matches and took a 3-1 lead in points
heading into the eight afternoon singles matches on
the first day of the Walker Cup Match at Ganton Golf
Club. Haas and Kuehne won their match, 2 and 1.
